You ask: Have you seen your associates whom you are invoking besides Allah? You show me what they have created in the earth; or have they any patron in the heavens? Or have We given any Book and are they upon the evidence from It? Nay, the wrongdoers are not promising one another except by deception.
This verse commands the believers to ask the Fujjar, who know how to call upon "Allah" but invoke others besides Him, to show what their associates have created on Earth and in the heavens or what role they have in the creation of them. As explained in verse 25: 18, by forgetting Adhikr, these Fujjar have become misguided people. Without any proof from the Lord’s Book, Adhikr, they are doing and encouraging evil customs and practices in the name of religion and holding false beliefs about the Lord. Thus, they are promising each other deception. They are serving the deceiver, Satan, and following his footsteps, as explained in verses 2: 168-169. In the Hereafter, the hypocritical leaders and their blind followers will quarrel, blame, and curse each other, as explained in verses 2: 165-167. See explanation 6: 21-24, 115-116; 25: 27-31; 32: 22.
